On Monday when I got home from work my sweet French bulldog, Lola, had what looked like a major infection in the folds of her face. She had clearly rubbed it to the point where it was bleeding and swollen.
Of course, the pups always choose to get sick when DH is out of town. This time was no different. So Tuesday morning I woke up and she had once again rubbed her face and gotten blood everywhere. I called and got the earliest appointment I could get with the vet.
In all the commotion with trying to clean up the blood, get ready for the vet and them work, and getting to the vet, I forgot to eat breakfast. I think this turned out to be my big mistake.
We made it to the vet and they were so good with Lola (the frenchie). They cleaned her mask and then gave her a shot of anti inflammatory meds. The vet opined that she has had a small eye infection that was bothering her and she just rubbed it so much that it turned into a bigger infection in her mask. They showed me how to put eye drops in her eye, wipe her mask with medicated wipes, and then put a cream on her face to help with the healing.
This is what her face looked like after they cleaned it (so it is not all bloody) but before it starts to heal.

While they were showing me this process, I started to feel faint. I have never passed out before so I was not sure where this was heading. All of the sudden, I realized everything was going black and I was going down. I told the vet tech to hold the dog and he did. Luckily the vet saw I was about to go and he grabbed my arm and help me down to the bench that was thankfully right behind my legs.
Everything was black for just a few seconds before I came too. Then once I was awake again I all the sudden had to vomit -- like NOW. I again asked the tech to watch Lola while I bolted to the bathroom and hurled. (TMI, I know)
After all of that I started to feel much better. The vet staff was super nice and offered to help me in any way they could. I explained that I was pregnant and that there wasn't anything to be alarmed about. Probably should not have skipped breakfast.
Luckily I left the vet no worse for the wear -- other than a major case of embarrassment. Oh well. Luckily, Lola is on the mend.
Oh my goodness!! First, you better never skip breakfast again, or at least get in the habit of keeping a granola bar or something in your purse - food stash emergency! I'm glad you're ok, but geez lady, don't scare me like that!! And second, awww, poor Lola. I hope her infection clears up quickly!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap girl! I hope you're feeling okay. That is scary! I second J's comment about keeping a food stash with you at all times! And poor Lola! I hope she's feeling better. You know I love those pups of yours!
ReplyDeleteThanks, ladies! I have made sure to keep nutrigrain bars and other snacks in my purse at all times since then. It was quite scary but not nearly as bad as it could have been. Lesson learned. Thanks for checking on me. Lots of love to you both!
